A Bloomfield Township mother is charged with hosting an open house party for teens where alcohol and marijuana were present.

Judy Marie Matyniak, 45, was arraigned by 48th District Court Magistrate Howard Linden for the party that occurred at her home in the 6700 block of Castle Drive on Feb. 7. The party was after an Andover High School dance and Matyniak was home at the time, according to police records.

“We saw people from the dance going to the house — limos pulling up and parents dropping off kids,” said Lt. Robert Garofalo of the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

Most of the kids at the party were13 to 15 years old and students in Bloomfield Hills District schools or private schools in the area, according to police reports.

“Police used K-9 units and took out of the house bags of marijuana and homemade pipes. Drugs were found in the toilet, refrigerator and in the couch.

“We take underage drinking very seriously in Bloomfield Hills, and we are going to do everything we can to stop it,” Garofalo said.

Township police had heard reports of the open house party and went to observe. Reports indicated that as the police approached the residence, kids started running out of the house. There were a minimum of 20 kids coming from the back of the home. Some ran away, while others ran into police. An open house party is a party where underage people are consuming or possessing alcohol or drugs while at the residence of adult citizens, said police officials.

Matyniak is scheduled for a preliminary exam at 9 a.m. April 2 before Magistrate Howard Linden.
